Salou, on the Costa Daurada in Tarragona province, recorded a strong start to 2026, with tourism figures up in the first four months of the year. According to Salou officials, tourist arrivals rose by an average of 36.75%, while overnight stays increased by 39% compared with the same period in 2025.
The gap between the two figures suggests that visitors are staying longer in the town, not just arriving in greater numbers. That fits Salou’s aim of drawing more visitors outside the peak summer months and spreading activity across the year.
Officials said the town is building its offer around gastronomy, sport, culture, heritage, major events, nature activities, coastal recovery projects and higher-quality services. The goal is to support more months of tourism and attract a wider range of visitors.
Pere Granados, mayor of Salou and president of the Municipal Tourism Board, said the town is moving towards a broader and more competitive tourism model with greater capacity to generate activity outside the high season.
He also said the results reflect joint work between the Town Council, the Municipal Tourism Board and the wider tourism sector, including hotels, shops, restaurants and service businesses. Granados added that the sector’s professionalism and commitment help strengthen Salou’s quality and profile.
The figures point to a tourism strategy that is bringing more economic activity, jobs and movement to the municipality throughout the year. For more local coverage, see our news page.
