Salou, a prominent town on Catalonia's Costa Daurada, recently organised a tourism workshop in Lisbon, Portugal, on 7 May 2026. The event aimed to strengthen its international promotion strategy and consolidate its presence in the Portuguese market, according to Salou officials.

The workshop, organised by Airmet in collaboration with Viatges Olympia, brought together dozens of travel agents from Lisbon and its metropolitan area. These professionals were keen to learn about Salou's tourism offerings, including new developments, experiences, and attractions available throughout the year.

Representatives from several Salou tourism businesses participated, including Grupo Blaumar, H10 Hotels, PortAventura World, Camping La Siesta, Ancora Apartaments, Ohtels, and Best Hotels. They presented their establishments and products to the Portuguese professionals, an action designed to boost the destination's sales in the Portuguese market.

High-Level Attendance and Promotional Efforts

The event was chaired by Salou's Mayor and President of the Municipal Tourism Board, Pere Granados. Also present were Rui Reis, the Catalan Government delegate to Portugal, and Raul Castro, the Turespaña counsellor in Portugal.

During the workshop, promotional videos were shown to highlight Salou's hotel offerings and main attractions. One video, 'Salou 365 days', emphasised the municipality's year-round experiences, covering nature, heritage, gastronomy, sport, culture, shopping, and family activities.

Mayor Granados reviewed Salou's tourism offerings and highlighted upcoming major events. These include the Festa al Cel Salou 2026 and the total solar eclipse observation on 12 August, which he said “will make Salou’s sky gain international prominence”. He also spoke about the city's new Modernist and Noucentist route and stressed the need to diversify tourism offerings to extend the season. Granados stated that “Salou captivates because it is a welcoming city, which looks after both visitors and tourists, and because it offers quality in all areas”.

Recognition and Sustainable Tourism Model

Raul Castro, the Turespaña counsellor, congratulated Salou for its work in tourism and its constant commitment to quality. He described Salou as “a benchmark municipality for tourism in Spain” and praised its understanding of the sector's strategic importance.

Rui Reis, the Catalan Government delegate, highlighted Salou's “constant effort to promote its city to the world and, at the same time, Catalonia as a quality, modern, and competitive tourist destination”. He also drew attention to Catalonia's sustainable tourism model, which he said is “based on the balance between tourism activity, environmental preservation, and the quality of life of the local population”.

As a gesture of institutional gratitude, Pere Granados presented Rui Reis and Raul Castro with a replica of the monument to King Jaume I during the meeting. The day concluded with a raffle of several tourist stays, donated by the participating Salou businesses, among the attending travel agents. This initiative aimed to enhance direct knowledge of the destination and further consolidate the Portuguese market as one of the emerging and strategic international markets for Salou.
