Salou's mayor and president of the Municipal Tourist Board, Pere Granados, held an institutional meeting in Lisbon with Berta Dias da Cunha, president of the Luso-Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The meeting, part of a promotional trip to the Portuguese capital, aimed to strengthen links between Salou and the Portuguese-Spanish business community.

The discussions focused on new collaboration opportunities in tourism, commerce, and investment. Mr Granados presented Salou's latest tourism products, which include culture, heritage, gastronomy, sport, and sustainability, all designed to position Salou as a year-round destination.

Boosting Economic Relations

Mr Granados also expressed Salou's interest in enhancing economic and business relationships between Portuguese and Salou-based companies. Both parties looked at potential business opportunities in Salou and Portugal, particularly in the tourism, commercial, and services sectors. This interest comes as the Portuguese market for Salou grew by 23% in 2025, according to officials.

Ms Dias da Cunha showed interest in Salou's tourism and economic model. She committed to finding ways for joint work and business collaboration. The chamber president highlighted the importance of strengthening commercial bridges between Portuguese and Spanish companies. She noted that the Luso-Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Industry currently has around 400 associated companies from both countries.

The Luso-Spanish Chamber of Commerce is an organisation with over 50 years of history. It works to promote commercial and economic relations between Portugal and Spain. The chamber collaborates closely with public and private institutions in both states, as well as with bodies linked to foreign trade and business internationalisation.

Further Institutional Engagements

During his trip, the Salou mayor also met with Gonçalo Reis, vice-president of Lisbon's municipal government. The president was in Brussels for a Council of Municipalities. Mr Granados also had an institutional meeting with Rui Reis, the Catalan Government delegate in Lisbon. This meeting aimed to continue reinforcing institutional, tourism, and cooperation links between Salou, Lisbon, and Portugal. He also visited the Portuguese Parliament, known as the Assembleia da República.
