Salou, in Tarragona province, will become the focal point for classic motor sports this weekend as it hosts the start of the 10th RallyRACC Catalunya–Costa Daurada Històric. This significant event, featuring 84 registered teams, positions the municipality at the heart of sporting and media activity.
The rally will officially start on Friday, 8 May, at 17:00 from Passeig Jaume I. This iconic promenade will transform into a prime setting where history, sport, and the region come together before hundreds of enthusiasts.
Salou's Role in Major Events
Starting the rally from Salou is more than symbolic. It strengthens the municipality's role as a gateway for major events on the Costa Daurada and highlights its ability to attract high-level competitions throughout the year. Hèctor Maiquez, Vice President of the Municipal Tourism Board, spoke at the event's presentation in Reus, emphasising the positive impact such events have on the region's profile and dynamism.
High-Calibre Participation and Iconic Vehicles
The competition will bring together 84 teams, with 39 participants in the Speed-Legend category and 45 in Regularity. The line-up includes top specialists from both the Spanish and Catalan championships.
Iconic vehicles will be on display, such as BMW M3s, Porsche 911 SCs, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIs, and Audi Quattros. In the Legend category, SEAT Ibiza Kit Cars will also feature prominently, marking their 30th anniversary.
After the start in Salou, the rally will move to Reus, which will host technical verifications, the service park, and the final arrival. The route covers 455 kilometres, including eight timed sections that revisit historic stages from the world RallyRACC.
Sport, Tourism, and Seasonal Extension
The RallyRACC Històric, which counts towards the Spanish and Catalan championships, is a strategic tool for extending the tourist season and promoting Salou as a quality sports destination. Through this event, the municipality confirms its leadership in organising large-scale events, combining sport, heritage, and unique experiences that enhance its identity beyond traditional sun and beach tourism. The countdown has begun, and Salou is set to energise the Costa Daurada with the sound of classic engines and the excitement of a competition that unites history and sport.
