The number of Sabadell residents registered as living abroad has increased by 4.5% in the last year, reaching 8,384 people, according to data from the Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat).

This rise reflects both personal aspirations and professional opportunities sought by individuals from the city in the Vallès Occidental region. One former resident, now living abroad, explained, "I have better conditions than when I worked in Catalonia, but I went more for a personal reason and the desire to re-experience living abroad than for a work issue."

Another individual cited a lack of future prospects in Spain as a key motivator. "I didn't see much future prospecting in Spain and wanted to find an alternative. I was missing something and wanted to live a different experience," they told reporters. These personal accounts show varied reasons behind the emigration trend.

Understanding Emigration Trends

Idescat's figures provide a clear picture of the changing demographics for Sabadell. The consistent increase in residents moving abroad suggests a broader pattern of Catalans seeking new lives beyond the region's borders. This data helps local authorities and policymakers understand the factors influencing population shifts.

Looking ahead, further analysis of these trends could help identify specific sectors or age groups most affected by emigration. This information could then inform strategies to retain talent and support residents within Catalonia.
