Roses port in Alt Empordà, Girona, began its new cruise season on Sunday with the arrival of the Seadream. The port expects to host seven cruise ships and approximately 2,700 passengers by 20 October, focusing exclusively on high-end vessels.

This strategy aims to spread economic and tourism activity throughout the Alt Empordà and Costa Brava regions. According to forecasts, 70% of these ship calls will occur outside the main tourist season, helping to desesonalise the local economy.

Boosting Local Experiences

The arrival of these cruise passengers, who typically have higher purchasing power, is expected to increase demand for unique and distinct experiences in the area. The Department noted that these activities often relate to culture, gastronomy, and wine tourism.

The focus on luxury cruises aligns with a broader effort to attract visitors seeking specialised local offerings. This approach helps local businesses by encouraging spending on premium services and products, rather than just general tourism.

Looking ahead, the port's schedule until October 20 will continue to bring in these exclusive ships. This sustained activity outside traditional peak months could provide a more stable income stream for local businesses and further establish Roses as a destination for discerning travellers.
