Roses changes mayor today, 13 June, as Sílvia Ripoll of Junts per Roses takes over from Josep Maria Martínez of the PSC. The handover follows the coalition agreement signed in June 2023 and affects the town council in Alt Empordà, Girona.

The pact also includes Gent del Poble and created an alternative majority in the Roses council. It left ERC in opposition, even though Joan Plana's candidacy won the most votes in the 28 May 2023 municipal elections.

Under the deal announced at Hotel Marina, Martínez was due to serve as mayor for the first three years of the term. Ripoll is now set to lead the council for the final year, until the next municipal elections in 2027.

The formal handover will take place in the council chamber of Roses Town Hall. The change depends on the votes of the councillors present.

Ripoll said the moment in the main hall of Casa Mallol felt full of excitement and responsibility. For more local political coverage across Catalonia, see our news page.
