Igualada Rigat captain Roger Bars underwent knee surgery in Igualada on Monday, 15 June 2026, during the OK Liga final. The player had been experiencing pain in the same knee that was operated on two years ago, according to Ràdio Igualada.
Bars did not play in the second match of the final, which Igualada Rigat lost 8-2, mirroring the score of the first game. He had endured pain throughout the season, which intensified in the final stages. Despite this, he continued to play until Friday, participating in defence and taking direct free hits.
His coach, Marc Muntané, told Ràdio Igualada that the exact nature of the injury was unknown before the operation. "We don't know what he has. It's a consequence of the knee operation he had a couple of years ago. Until they open him up, they won't know exactly what it is," Muntané explained.
Recovery Time Uncertain
Muntané also stated that Bars had been experiencing "very great discomfort that prevented him from playing at a normal level and in a top competition like the one we are in." Following the surgery, it remains to be seen whether Bars' absence will last for the entire summer, allowing him to be ready for the start of the next season, or if the injury is more severe, potentially causing him to miss part or almost all of the upcoming season.
Joel Roma replaced Bars in the squad for Sunday's game. Igualada Rigat, now without their captain, will play the third match of the final this Friday at 7pm at Les Comes.
