The Ripoll Town Council and the Ramon Suriñach special education school have launched a project to install pictograms in municipal buildings. This aims to make public spaces easier to understand and more accessible for everyone in Ripoll, a town in central Catalonia.
Ripoll's mayor, Sílvia Orriols, attended the presentation on 13 May 2026, alongside several councillors. They highlighted the importance of community projects that have a social and inclusive impact on the town.
This new project follows a previous initiative by the Ramon Suriñach centre, which successfully implemented pictograms in local shops. That earlier work received an award for good practices in universal accessibility from the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP). Now, the effort expands to municipal facilities, moving towards a more inclusive and accessible town. The pictograms will help identify different municipal spaces and services more clearly, especially for people with communication difficulties, children, and the elderly.
Collaborative Installation Efforts
Installation of the pictograms will start in the coming days. Students from the Ramon Suriñach centre will take part, working with the municipal brigade. This collaborative approach involves different groups within the municipality.
Through this action, Ripoll Town Council shows its commitment to creating a town that is more accessible, inclusive, and adapted to the needs of all its residents.
