Cerdanyola del Vallès will mark International Museum Day on 18 May with a weekend of free activities, open days, and guided tours on 16 and 17 May. The city's museums will offer residents and visitors a chance to explore its historical and artistic heritage, according to Cerdanyola City Council.

The initiative, organised annually since 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), highlights the role of museums as centres for knowledge, social cohesion, and dialogue. This year's theme, 'Museums uniting a divided world', focuses on museums as places for understanding and inclusion among diverse cultures and communities. The theme also marks ICOM's 80th anniversary.

History Museum Activities

The Cerdanyola History Museum, located at Ca n'Oliver, will offer open doors on 16 and 17 May during its usual opening hours. On 17 May, from 11:30am to 1:30pm, the museum will host 'A Laboratory in the Museum'. This activity allows participants to observe and join in the reconstruction of ceramic pieces from fragments found during the 2024 excavation campaign.

The CRAC group and Balay volunteer team have collaborated for years on laboratory and documentation work at Ca n'Oliver Museum. After the reconstruction activity, attendees can tour the Cerdanyola History Museum's storage facilities, which house materials from prehistory to the 20th century. This free activity is for those over 10 years old, with limited capacity. Prior registration is required between 9 and 16 May via email at [email protected].

Art Museum Modernist Itinerary

Although the Cerdanyola Art Museum (MAC) is currently closed for renovations, it continues to offer activities at various locations across the city. On 17 May, from 12pm to 1pm, the MAC will lead a free modernist itinerary along Avinguda Catalunya. This tour will visit emblematic Modernist and Noucentist buildings, sharing their stories to help participants understand the city's rich architectural heritage.

Places for the modernist itinerary are limited. To register, call 935 914 130 between 8am and 1pm, or email [email protected]. The meeting point for this activity is Ca n'Altimira.

The city council encourages residents to take part in these activities to connect with Cerdanyola's past and present.
