The Catalan government has allocated €1.402 million to Reus for urgent upgrades across its public education centres, with work scheduled to take place in 2027.
The funding forms part of a €100 million regional investment plan launched in 2026 to improve, adapt and refurbish public infant, primary and secondary schools across Catalonia.
In Reus, the amount awarded reflects both student numbers and the age of school buildings. The council has filed an appeal seeking an additional €100,000 to further expand the scope of the works, which will target outdated architectural features and installations.
Eligible expenses include replacing roofs, windows, toilets, kitchens and dining areas that have become obsolete. The improvements aim to enhance safety, energy efficiency and accessibility.
Scheduled Upgrades
- Replacement of single-glazed iron windows at Montsant, Prat de la Riba and Pompeu Faba schools with high-performance aluminium frames and double glazing for better insulation, noise reduction and security
- Refurbishment of toilets at Rubió i Ors, Eduard Toda, Marià Fortuny, Joan Rebull and Cèlia Artiga schools to include durable materials, efficient systems and universal access features
- Renovation of the kitchen at Escola Rosa Sensat
The upgrades will be channelled through the Ajuntament de Reus, which prioritises older centres with the most pressing needs. Work is already in the planning phase and will be executed during 2027.
These improvements will ensure safer, more efficient and inclusive learning environments for Reus students.
The project aligns with broader efforts to strengthen climate resilience in schools. One example is the recent installation of a climate shelter at Escola Rosa Sensat, the sixth such facility in a Reus educational centre, as confirmed by the Ajuntament.
