Reus is marking a notable centenary, as Niepce photography studio celebrates 100 years on Carrer Llovera. The business has become part of the city’s visual record, with a role that reaches well beyond a single family studio.
According to officials, Niepce holds an archive of more than nine million images. The studio is now led by Dolors Busquets, the fourth generation of her family to run it, and its story began in Barcelona in 1915 before the Reus branch opened a century ago.
The collection offers a detailed record of Reus over the past 100 years, from everyday life to major social, cultural and urban changes. It is a significant piece of graphic heritage for the city and a useful source for historians and local residents.
As the studio marks this milestone, it says it wants to continue documenting and preserving photographic material. It also plans to look at new ways of making the archive more accessible to the public.
