Temps d'Avellana 2026 begins with full programme

The ninth edition of Temps d'Avellana launched this Wednesday 14 October 2026, marking the start of a series of gastronomic and commercial activities across Reus to promote the local hazelnut. The programme runs until mid-November and aims to involve every part of the supply chain, from farmers and processors to retailers and consumers. Coordinated by the Technical Office of the Hazelnut, managed by the technological centre Eurecat, the initiative aligns this year with the rollout of the new Hazelnut Plan 2026–2028 by the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food (DARPA). This strategy reinforces policies to add value to the product and support the sector.

Gastronomy and commerce take centre stage

This year’s edition strengthens the role of restaurants, markets and local businesses in promoting hazelnuts. Events include Tapa Reus, where participating establishments feature hazelnut-based dishes and compete for the best tapa, and activities at Reus Markets and local shops. Other highlights include collaboration with the Gastrosàvies project by the Alícia Foundation, a special hazelnut-themed menu in Falset, and the presence of hazelnut products at Gastronomik Reus – Fira ÀPAT. The fifth edition of the Festa de l'Avellana de Reus and the DOP Avellana de Reus Awards will also take place.

This is a major celebration where everyone is represented, from the farming community to the consumer,

Institutions back local value chain

At the official launch event held at Reus Chamber of Commerce, officials underscored the importance of local produce. Noemí Llauradó, President of Tarragona Provincial Council, highlighted the institution’s support for the primary sector and public awareness campaigns for local products. Sandra Guaita, Mayor of Reus, emphasised the sense of belonging that the Reus hazelnut fosters among residents. Mario Basora, President of Reus Chamber of Commerce and Llotja de Reus, called the event a strong example of collaboration between institutions, businesses and producers. Elisabet Arlandes, Director of the Technical Office of the Hazelnut and Tourism and Culture Consultant at Eurecat, said the partnerships behind the programme have increased the nut’s visibility and standing. She added that this year’s efforts would lay the groundwork for the 10th anniversary edition. Ester Gomis, President of the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Avellana de Reus, welcomed this year’s improved harvest in both quantity and quality. She stressed that the PGI is not just a label but a tool to defend producers’ interests and raise the profile of their work.
