In Barcelona, the Popular Party (PP) has labelled the reintroduction of Rodalies train fares as "unacceptable", following months of free travel due to a January accident in Gelida. The party stated that authorities "should guarantee a dignified, punctual, and reliable service" before charging passengers again.
In a press release, the PP criticised the situation, saying it was "intolerable that Catalans are once again paying for an undignified service, plagued by delays, incidents, and neglect". The party accused the Catalan government of normalising payment for a service that is steadily worsening.
Eva García, a PP deputy in the Catalan Parliament, said in the same statement that "it is unacceptable that charging resumes while Rodalies continues to operate with daily incidents and without guarantees for users". García added that "the problem is not solely the ticket price, but the neglect and inability to manage a railway network essential for Catalonia".
Demands for Investment and Transparency
The PP is demanding "urgent investments, transparency in management, and a real plan to end the permanent collapse of Rodalies" from the Generalitat, along with "political accountability". The parliamentary group described the current situation as unsustainable for the region's commuters.
