The Polish low-cost retail chain Pepco is set to open a new large store in Mataró city centre on 28 May, according to company plans. This move marks a further expansion for the brand, known for its affordable fashion, home goods, and accessories.

The new establishment will be located at number 102, Carrer de La Riera, taking over the premises previously occupied by Drim, which has relocated to an adjacent unit. This opening follows the recent inauguration of Pepco's largest store in Catalonia, situated on Carrer de Pelai in Barcelona city centre, earlier in April.

Pepco's Growth in Catalonia

This expansion in Mataró is part of Pepco's broader growth strategy, which has seen the company establish over 4,000 stores across Europe and more than 250 on the Iberian Peninsula. The brand first arrived in Spain in January 2021, opening its initial stores in Alicante and Castellón provinces. Since then, its presence has grown significantly, with almost 30 operational stores now across Catalonia.

The opening also highlights a growing interest in new low-cost retail chains. For example, a Primapix supermarket, offering recognised brands at low prices, recently opened at number 33 on the same street in Mataró.

Business Model and Success

Pepco, founded in the late 1990s and headquartered in Poznań, Poland, has become a leading low-cost operator throughout Europe. Its success comes from offering a diverse and frequently updated product catalogue. This strategy, based on moving large volumes of merchandise, allows the company to maintain competitive prices, attracting many families looking to manage their budgets.
