In Vila-sacra, in Alt Empordà, Pep Velasco Navarro will lead the Som Vila-sacra, Junts pel Progrés candidacy in the 2027 municipal elections. The group says its project aims to open a new phase for the town, with a focus on progress, participation and direct resident involvement in public life.
Velasco is currently a director at Editorial Ginesta and works in marketing. He previously served as international director for Editorial Santillana. He is also an author, including The History of Vila-sacra and the Future. The candidacy says his professional background combines international experience with long-standing local ties, as he has lived and been active in Vila-sacra for many years.
Velasco said, “I believe the time for change has come to make Vila-sacra an example to follow. We have potential and talent, and now it is time to put it at the service of the town.”
The 2027 candidacy says all of its team members are residents of Vila-sacra, which Velasco described as key to understanding local problems and working with common sense and responsibility. Joan Carles López Martín will stand as number two on the list.
Velasco said the team wants a town council “managed by everyone”, with citizen involvement and attention to all voices. After meeting several mayors in Alt Empordà, he said he sees opportunities for Vila-sacra’s development through sustainable growth, planning, innovation and the use of the municipality’s own resources.
He added that his international experience has shown him how places can change through management and strategic vision, and that he wants to apply that learning in Vila-sacra. The candidacy says its aim is to build a more participatory and dynamic municipality, ready for future challenges. For more local coverage, see our news page.
