Paula Cuenda, sommelier at Villa Más in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, has been recognised as Catalonia's Best Sommelier 2026. She won the title at a historic final with three women on the podium, held during the Fòrum Gastronòmic in Girona.
The award was presented to Cuenda during the Nit del Sommelier (Sommelier's Night) at the Esperit Roca restaurant, also in Girona. At 27 years old, Cuenda was the youngest finalist in the competition, marking a significant achievement in her career.
From Kitchens to Cellars
Cuenda's journey in the culinary world started in the kitchens of renowned restaurants. She gained experience at establishments such as Les Cols and El Celler de Can Roca, both highly acclaimed in Catalonia and beyond. This background gave her a deep understanding of gastronomy before she transitioned to front-of-house roles.
Her true calling, however, emerged in the world of wine and direct interaction with diners. As a sommelier, Cuenda found her passion in guiding guests through wine selections and enhancing their dining experience. Her success in the competition highlights her dedication and expertise in this specialised field.
Looking ahead, Cuenda's win is expected to bring further recognition to her work at Villa Más and potentially inspire more young professionals to pursue careers in sommelierie.
