Calafell is mourning the death of Paco Orbea, a well-known figure in the town’s domino scene and former president of Dominó Calafell. Local reports said he died last Friday.

Orbea was also active in several regional bodies, including Aadt Tarragona, Dominó Barcelona Associació and the Catalan Domino Federation. His work helped keep domino visible as a social activity in Calafell and across Tarragona.

He was closely involved in community life in Calafell, where he organised tournaments and encouraged residents to take part in the game. His role made him a familiar name in the town and beyond.

Tributes have also come from the wider area. During a book presentation on Saturday for Olympic medallist José Manuel Abascal, the athlete paid a special tribute to Orbea and spoke about their close relationship.

Organisations including AAadt Tarragona and other federations he worked with have expressed condolences. For more local news across Catalonia, see our news coverage.
