Catalan.News is published by Pub.cat, founded and owned by Owen Hughes. Pub.cat is operated as a Spanish autónomo and will incorporate as an SL during 2026 once revenue thresholds justify it.

There are no outside investors as of 28 April 2026. There is no editorial influence from any third party, advertiser, or political organisation.

Funding

Catalan.News is funded by:

  1. Display advertising — programmatic ads (e.g. AdSense, Ezoic).
  2. Sponsored content — clearly labelled "Sponsored" articles paid for by businesses operating across Catalonia.
  3. Newsletter sponsorships — clearly labelled sponsorships in our newsletter.

We do not accept payment for editorial coverage. We do not let advertisers see articles before publication. We do not edit articles in response to advertiser pressure or political pressure.

When an article is sponsored:

  • The headline includes "Sponsored" or "Partner content".
  • The article body includes a disclosure block at the top naming the sponsor.
  • The article is not eligible for newsletter inclusion or homepage feature unless explicitly labelled.
  • Sponsors see articles before publication only for accuracy review, not editorial direction.

Group conflicts of interest

The shop shop.retroshell.com is owned by RetroShell Ltd (UK), a separate legal entity but in the same group as Pub.cat (Owen is sole owner of both). Catalan.News does not promote RetroShell products.

Political independence

Catalan politics is contested — independence, language, regional governance. Catalan.News covers all major positions with proportional weight. We do not endorse parties or movements. We do not accept political advertising or party-aligned sponsorships.

Editorial independence

Editorial decisions — what we cover, how we cover it, what we publish — are made by the editorial team (currently a custom AI system supervised by Owen). No advertiser, sponsor, partner, or political body has any veto over coverage.
