Girona is at the centre of a major Mossos d'Esquadra operation, with more than 600 officers deployed on 26 May 2026 against a network suspected of trafficking and growing marijuana. Police also link the group to weapons possession and money laundering.
Searches are taking place in several locations, including two flats in Girona's Font de la Pólvora neighbourhood. Officers suspect the alleged leaders are involved in indoor cannabis cultivation and drug distribution.
The deployment includes agents from DIC, GEI, BRIMO, ARRO, the Scientific Police, the Canine Unit, Air Support, the Central Control Room and the Citizen Security Unit. During the searches at two flats on Avinguda de la Font de la Pólvora, two people were identified and an indoor marijuana plantation was found in one of the homes.
Operations have also been carried out in Riudarenes, Cassà de la Selva, L'Escala, Sils, Caldes de Malavella, Brunyola, Llagostera, Bescanó, Celrà, Quart and Salt. These towns are in the Selva, Gironès and Alt Empordà areas of Girona province.
The case remains under secrecy order, so police have not released further details. For more Catalonia-wide crime coverage, see our news page.
