The Mossos d'Esquadra will intensify police pressure against organised crime linked to cannabis in the Girona region, according to Commissioner Sílvia Catà. Catà acknowledged that "there is a problem" with this type of crime and stated that there is "no place" in the area for those who profit from cannabis cultivation and trafficking.
Looking ahead to the summer, the Girona region will receive an "injection" of new police officers from the training academy. These additional agents will increase surveillance and security across the area, officials said.
Targeting Tourist Areas
Commissioner Catà also highlighted that police will focus attention on tourist towns like Lloret de Mar, where criminal activity significantly increases during the summer months. The increased police presence aims to address this seasonal rise in crime.
The Mossos' strategy involves a sustained effort to disrupt criminal networks involved in the illicit cannabis trade. This includes both overt policing and intelligence-led operations to dismantle organised groups operating in the region.
