The Mossos d'Esquadra will move their regional headquarters for the Girona counties from Girona city to Salt. The municipal plenary session in Salt will discuss the necessary agreements on Monday, 15 June 2026, to establish a new regional police station in the municipality. The Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSC) links this operation to an investment of nearly €30 million.
According to the PSC municipal group, the agreement has been developed over recent weeks with the Department of Interior of the Generalitat and Salt Town Council. The party states that this action will unlock one of the most important investments in Salt in recent decades and strengthen Salt's role within the Mossos d'Esquadra's territorial structure.
Joan Martín, the PSC spokesperson in Salt, highlighted that "security is one of the main concerns for the residents of Salt." He argued for taking advantage of this opportunity, stating, "We are talking about a historic investment that will reinforce police resources and improve the municipality's security for decades to come."
Martín also noted the PSC's important role in building the consensus needed for the agreement. He said, "Over recent weeks, we have maintained that any important agreement for Salt had to come with real benefits for the municipality." The socialist spokesperson believes the new police station will bring new resources, strengthen police response capabilities, and place Salt in a "strategic position" for the coming years.
Boosting Security and Investment in Salt
The PSC views the agreement as "very good news" for Salt. They argue it shows the usefulness of politics when it secures investments and facilities. The party has pledged to continue working to ensure that the commitments from the agreement are carried out as quickly as possible.
The relocation signifies a major shift in the regional police presence, centralising operations in Salt. This move is expected to have a lasting impact on the town's infrastructure and its capacity to manage public safety. The discussions in the plenary session will formalise the initial steps for this substantial project.
