Montserrat, in Central Catalonia, is set to celebrate one of its most important days, the 'Diada de la Moreneta', on 27 April. This annual event honours Catalonia's patron saint and will bring together pilgrims and visitors for a day of religious tradition and cultural activities.

The celebration starts on the eve of the 'Diada' with the Vigil Mass on Sunday afternoon. This mass will conclude with a sardana dance in the abbey squares. On the main day, the Solemnity Mass will take place, attended by the Benedictine community and the Escolania de Montserrat. Following the ceremony, more sardana dances will be performed in the squares, with the Cobla Triomfal d'Igualada as a guest.

Cultural Offerings and New Experiences

Beyond the liturgical events, Montserrat will offer many cultural proposals to explore the monastery's history. On 27 April, the Montserrat Museum will have an open day. The museum houses one of Catalonia's most significant archaeological and artistic collections, comprising around 1,300 pieces. These range chronologically from a 22nd-century BC Egyptian sarcophagus to a painting by contemporary American artist Sean Scully.

Visitors can also see the new immersive space, part of the museum. This area offers an audiovisual experience that shows the daily life of the Benedictine community and helps visitors understand the monastery's historical importance.

Technology and Tradition Combine

Using technology and new formats to connect new generations with Montserrat's history and symbolism has been a recent focus. Another notable offering is the 'Lux Splendens' video mapping, first shown during the Millennium celebration. This visual experience in the Basilica of Santa Maria combines art, music, and technology to create a sensory experience reflecting on spirituality and creation.

The 'Lux Splendens' mapping will be shown on Saturday at 8:15pm, and on Sunday and Monday afternoons at 3:15pm. Pre-booking is required for these viewings. These initiatives aim to make Montserrat's rich heritage accessible and engaging for all visitors.
