€1 million investment in urban infrastructure
The Montcada i Reixac City Council will invest a total of €1 million in renewing and improving the asphalt on approximately fifteen streets across the municipality. This includes a contract budget of €728,418.16 for the 'Executive Project for Street Asphalt Maintenance 2026', as confirmed by the council's official website and public procurement records. An additional €171,582 will be allocated to the redevelopment of Beat Oriol street, covering 5,590 m², bringing the total investment to one million euros. The works are expected to renew around 16,558.38 m² of road surface across strategic locations in the town.
Targeted repairs to fix degradation
The project aims to resolve long-standing issues including potholes, cracks and subsidence caused by heavy vehicle traffic and wear on the sub-base, a phenomenon known as 'alligator cracking'. Roads to be resurfaced include Passeig de Sant Jordi, Carrer Pau Casals, Carrer Pla de Matabous, Carrer Castelló, Carrer Montsant, Camí de la Font Freda, Carrer Fusters, Carrer Lloret and Carrer Ripoll 1. Works will be carried out efficiently to minimise disruption, with an estimated completion time of 1.5 to 2 months.
We are implementing a public space maintenance policy with increased resources and continuous planning,
, Andreu Iruela, President of the Territorial and Mobility Area Iruela noted that the council invested a similar amount last year to renew around 25,000 m² of road surface.
Major junction and industrial access upgrades
Separately, the council has agreed a €500,000 intervention with the Pla d’en Coll Industrial Estate Compensation Board to improve the northern entrance of the municipality along Passeig de la Font Freda, from Carrer Castelló to the La Llagosta municipal boundary. This stretch covers 10,200 m² and is key for industrial and freight access. The council emphasised that these improvements will not increase annual maintenance costs, as the works are designed for long-term durability.
