Montcada i Reixac Council has approved a motion backing the public education community’s demands for more resources, better working conditions and quality education. The text was presented by the En Comú Montcada municipal group on behalf of the Montcada i Reixac Teachers’ Assembly.
The motion calls for stable staffing, lower student-teacher ratios and more human and financial resources. It also seeks to restore the purchasing power of teaching and support staff, together with salary updates to prevent further losses.
It further asks for better conditions for educational support staff and other workers, less bureaucracy in schools, and more time for teaching and direct contact with students. The council also supports stronger staff participation, greater workforce stability and agreement on curricula with the education community. For more local coverage, see our news page.
On school buildings, the motion calls for improved infrastructure, air conditioning in schools and the gradual removal of temporary classroom modules, known as barracons. It also asks for planning that prioritises public schools and avoids the closure of public school lines.
The council is urging the Catalan government to continue talks with unions and education community representatives in order to reach a broad, fair and shared agreement. The motion will also be sent to the Department of Education, parliamentary groups in the Parliament of Catalonia and the management teams of the municipality’s educational centres.
