Mollerussa, in the Lleida region, has become the first local authority to meet with Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) to discuss planned improvements for the R13 (Lleida-Cervera) and R14 (Lleida-Terrassa) rail lines. The institutional visit on Monday aimed to detail the upgrade project, according to FGC officials.

This meeting marks the first in a series of consultations FGC plans to hold with municipalities along the routes of these railway lines. The goal is to gather feedback and manage the anticipated enhancements for local residents.

During the initial discussion, an agreement was reached to increase train frequency, with up to 14 services operating daily. Five of these services will extend to Terrassa. Furthermore, station improvements are planned, including better signage, enhanced accessibility, and new equipment such as ticket machines. FGC also intends to introduce live, updated information about the lines.

New Trains for Improved Service

New trains are also part of the upgrade programme. Four new trains are on order, with one already undergoing testing. The remaining three are currently under construction, officials said. These modern trains are expected to significantly improve the travel experience for passengers on both the R13 and R14 lines.

Moving forward, FGC will continue its engagement with other local councils to ensure a smooth implementation of the rail improvements. The project aims to enhance connectivity and service quality across the affected areas of Catalonia.
