Mataró is set to conclude its EDINT (Data Spaces for Smart Urban Infrastructures) project on 7 May, following trials of data-based solutions aimed at improving the city. The project connected public and private sector data to develop pilot programmes in mobility, sustainability, and economic activity.
The closing event, held at TecnoCampus, will feature a keynote speech by Genís Roca, a leading expert in digital transformation. Roca will discuss the role of data in the future of cities. The event also marks the conclusion of CEOD Mataró (Centre of Excellence and Data Office), an integral part of the EDINT project.
Driving Urban Innovation with Data
The EDINT project was led by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) and funded by Spain's Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, in collaboration with the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function through Red.es. Its main goal was to act as an innovation lever for public services and a driver for local economic activity and employment, aiming to create more sustainable, efficient, and liveable urban environments.
CEOD Mataró served as a local innovation laboratory, generating solutions across three key areas: smart mobility, public resource and service management, and local competitiveness. The closing ceremony will begin at 9:30am with a welcome from Mataró's mayor, David Bote, and FEMP's secretary general, Luis Martínez-Sicluna.
Project Insights and Expert Discussions
Following the welcome, an explanatory tour of the projects will take place. This will be followed by a round table discussion with representatives from the companies that developed the use cases in Mataró: municipal companies PUMSA and AMSA, and Betipo SL. These pilot projects explored various data applications.
After a break, another round table discussion titled “Data as a Driver of Transformation” will be held. Participants will include Toni Merino, manager of Mataró City Council; Eva Guijarro, head of the Digital Transformation and Technologies Area at Localret Consortium; Miquel Estapé, director of the Open Administration of Catalonia Consortium; Karma Peiró, executive director of the Visualization for Transparency Foundation; and Josep Lluís Checa, general director of the TecnoCampus Foundation.
Genís Roca, a specialist in business development and digital culture, will deliver a keynote address titled “Data, Cities, People and Future”. The event will conclude with remarks from Mataró's first deputy mayor, Miquel Àngel Vadell. Prior registration is required to attend the closing event.
