Police in Manresa, central Catalonia, have arrested a 44-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman following an alleged racist assault on four Muslim women. The incident occurred shortly before 8pm when a police patrol heard shouts and saw a group fighting in the Baixada dels Drets area.

According to NacióManresa, a local news outlet, and confirmed by the Catalan News Agency (ACN), the four women sustained facial contusions after being punched multiple times. They were subsequently transported to hospital for treatment.

Hate Crime Allegations

The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's police force, have charged the two arrested individuals with assault and hate crimes. Several witnesses reported that the couple had been insulting women wearing headscarves in the street for some time before the physical altercation.

The two suspects are expected to appear before a judge in the coming hours. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about hate crimes and discrimination within the region.
