The Manresa-Igualada-Vic Public Prosecutor's Office in Central Catalonia will gain three new prosecutors, the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes announced on Tuesday. This forms part of 35 new prosecutor positions created across Catalonia.
This increase is intended to improve the efficiency of the justice system and reduce processing times, according to Ramon Espadaler, the Minister of Justice and Democratic Quality. The new positions will raise Catalonia's public prosecutor's staff from 433 to 468 people, an 8% increase. This growth matches the expansion seen over the past seven years.
Regional Distribution of New Prosecutors
Across Catalonia, 12 locations will each receive one additional prosecutor. These include Badalona, the Granollers-Mollet del Vallès area, L'Hospitalet, Sabadell, Terrassa, the Mataró-Arenys de Mar area, El Prat, Figueres, Olot, the Lleida Provincial Public Prosecutor's Office, Reus, and El Vendrell.
Four areas, including Manresa-Igualada-Vic, Sant Feliu de Llobregat, the Vilanova i la Geltrú-Vilafranca del Penedès area, and the Tarragona Provincial Public Prosecutor's Office, will each see two new prosecutors. The Girona Provincial Public Prosecutor's Office will receive the largest single increase, with three new incorporations.
These 35 new positions in Catalonia are part of a national total of 200 new prosecutor roles across Spain. Nationally, the number of public prosecutor positions will rise from 2,804 to 3,004.
