Manresa has officially renamed its central square Neus Català i Pallejà. The change affects the city’s most central public space, formerly known as Crist Rei, and comes as part of the reurbanisation works on Àngel Guimerà street.
The square links the two sections of Passeig de Pere III and remains one of Manresa’s main meeting points. It is used for public events including demonstrations, gatherings, exhibitions, circus and dance performances, sports celebrations, fairs and concerts.
Although it does not carry the same historical or symbolic weight as Plaça Major or Plaça de Sant Domènec, the square has a clear civic role in the city centre. The renaming gives the space a new official identity while the surrounding works continue.
The project is part of a wider effort to modernise and improve public spaces in Manresa. The aim of the Àngel Guimerà street works is to improve how the area works and how it looks for residents and visitors.
