A man from Olot is in serious but stable condition in Girona’s Josep Trueta Hospital after falling from a third-floor apartment in the city on Saturday morning.

The incident happened around 1.30am after he reportedly left his keys inside his flat and tried to get back in by climbing a drainpipe.

According to officials, the drainpipe broke while he was at third-floor height, causing him to fall. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital by the Medical Emergency System (SEM).

Four Mossos d’Esquadra patrols attended the scene and opened an investigation to clarify what happened. Police sources said the case is currently being treated as accidental.

Hospital officials later confirmed that the patient remains in the intensive care unit at Josep Trueta Hospital, where he is being treated in serious but stable condition. For more Catalonia news, see our news coverage.
