A man was arrested in Esplugues de Llobregat, Baix Llobregat, on Saturday after a woman was killed in the street. Police are investigating the incident as a potential case of gender-based violence.
The emergency services received an alert around 11am, reporting that a man had seriously injured a woman near Sant Joan de Déu hospital before fleeing the scene. The victim, who had been attacked with a bladed weapon in public, died shortly after the assault, according to sources close to the investigation who spoke to EFE.
Officers located and arrested the attacker after he fled. The investigation remains open to clarify the full circumstances, and the suspect is currently in police custody.
Local Condemnation and Call for Prudence
Esplugues de Llobregat City Council has condemned the killing. The council has offered the Mossos d'Esquadra "all necessary institutional collaboration to help clarify the facts."
In a statement, the council also requested "prudence and responsibility, and to avoid the dissemination of unverified information" out of respect for the ongoing investigation and all affected individuals.
