A man was arrested in Castelldefels, in the Baix Llobregat region of Barcelona, on Tuesday, 12 May, after attempting to rob three shops. Local police detained the man, who was found waiting for a bus after his unsuccessful attempts to force entry into the establishments.

According to officials, the man faces three charges of attempted robbery with force. He was taken to the police station and is awaiting a court appearance. The incidents occurred throughout Tuesday afternoon in the town centre.

Public Alerts Lead to Arrest

The man reportedly tried to force open the entrances of several commercial premises in full view of the public. Despite his efforts, he failed to gain entry to any of the shops and eventually gave up, leaving each scene without taking anything. However, residents walking nearby witnessed his actions and alerted authorities to a suspicious person attempting to steal.

This public cooperation, combined with a swift police response, allowed officers to apprehend him before he could leave the area by bus. When patrols from the Local Police and the Mossos d'Esquadra arrived, witnesses provided a precise description of the individual. Security camera footage from some of the targeted premises also helped identify him.

Tools of the Trade Seized

Police located the man a short distance away, waiting at a bus stop. Upon identification, officers found a large screwdriver in his possession. This tool is commonly used by thieves to force entry into shops, flats, and warehouses, according to police. He was then arrested for the three attempted robberies.

The investigation into the incidents is ongoing, with authorities examining the extent of the damage caused to the shop entrances. The case highlights the importance of community vigilance and quick police action in preventing crime in Castelldefels.
