Drivers heading south towards Tarragona and Reus faced queues of up to 7.5 kilometres on the AP-7 on Thursday 6 August after a lorry caught fire near the El Mèdol service area, between Torredembarra and Altafulla.
The fire led to the closure of two southbound lanes at kilometre 236.5, with congestion stretching from Creixell to the scene. Servei Català de Trànsit, Catalonia's traffic authority, advised motorists to avoid the area and use the N-340 or A-7 instead.
Fire reported at El Mèdol service area
The incident was reported at about 10.29am. Four crews from Bombers de la Generalitat, Catalonia's fire and rescue service, attended the scene.

Bombers said the fire involved the lorry's trailer, had been brought under control, and also affected an area of vegetation on the roadside.
Motorists travelling through the Torredembarra and Altafulla area were advised by Servei Català de Trànsit to take the N-340 or A-7 while emergency work continued.
