Lloret de Mar, a town on the Costa Brava, has strengthened its position in sustainable tourism through participation in an international conference in Andorra and by hosting a specialised German press trip. These initiatives, organised by Lloret Turisme, highlight the town's commitment to responsible tourism practices.
Lloret de Mar was the invited destination at the fifth Sustainable Tourism Conference, "Spokespersons for a Better World," held in Andorra. Organised by Radio SER Principat d'Andorra and the Comú de Sant Julià de Lòria, the event was fully booked and served as a key forum for discussing innovation, sustainability, and the future of tourism.
Promoting Responsible Tourism
During the conference's "Tourism, Sustainability and Innovation" programme, Elizabeth Keegan, director of Lloret Turisme, presented the Lloret Healthy and Responsible project. This initiative promotes a tourism model focused on quality, health, sustainability, and harmonious coexistence between residents and visitors.
Keegan stated that "sustainability is no longer an added value, but an essential condition for tourism competitiveness. In Lloret, we are working to make a real, transversal transformation possible, shared with the sector and the public." Consultant Rafael de Jorge also praised Lloret de Mar's implementation of artificial intelligence as an example of an innovative destination using new technologies in tourism. The conference also addressed ethical tourism and the impact of climate change in the Pyrenees.
German Journalists Visit Lloret
Lloret de Mar will host a German press trip focused on sustainability on 26 April. This visit, organised in collaboration with the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, will include seven journalists specialising in sustainable tourism, responsible travel, and quality destinations.
During their visit, the journalists will explore the Santa Clotilde Gardens, one of the Costa Brava's most visited cultural sites, attracting over 120,000 visitors annually. These gardens are recognised as a Cultural Asset of National Interest and are a founding member of the European Cultural Route of Historic Gardens. The itinerary also includes the new Amphitheatre within the Santa Clotilde Gardens, a recently opened project funded by European Next Generation funds, noted for its integration into the landscape.
Through these two actions, Lloret Turisme aims to reinforce its international standing as an innovative and responsible destination, dedicated to a sustainable and de-seasonalised tourism model.
