Lleida police are investigating the death of a young woman whose body was found in the Segre river near Pont Nou, in the Instituts area, on Wednesday. The case is being handled by the Mossos d'Esquadra criminal investigation unit, which is waiting for the autopsy results.

Preliminary analyses have indicated signs that do not fit a natural death or an accidental fall, according to local reports. Police are still waiting for the full post-mortem to establish the cause of death and to determine whether a crime may have been involved. As of Friday afternoon, police sources said the woman had not yet been identified.

Emergency services were alerted at 15:54 on Wednesday after a body was seen floating in the Segre river in Lleida city. Mossos d'Esquadra officers, Guàrdia Urbana, Generalitat Firefighters and SEM ambulances attended the scene. The body was recovered from the river and the person was confirmed dead.

The investigation is also linked to another body found on the same Wednesday morning in the Seròs canal, near the Utxesa reservoir gates, in the municipality of Aitona. A maintenance technician found the body. Police identified the person as a man, and said the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, suggesting he had been dead for several days.
