Rental prices in Lleida city have risen by 14.7% over the past year, making it one of the Spanish cities with the largest increases. Across Catalonia, the region remains one of the most expensive for housing, according to a new study by property portal Idealista.

The study shows that average rental prices across Spain increased by 5.2% year-on-year. The average cost per square metre nationwide is €15.

Catalonia ranks as the third most expensive autonomous community in Spain, with an average rental cost of €17.1 per square metre. This places it behind only a few other regions in terms of housing expense.

Regional Rental Trends

While Lleida saw a significant jump, other Catalan cities experienced varied trends. Girona managed to contain rental price increases more effectively than other areas. Tarragona registered no increases in rental or housing costs over the last year, offering some stability for residents there.

Barcelona, however, stands out as the second most expensive city in Spain for rentals, just behind Madrid. This highlights the broad range of housing costs within Catalonia, from the sharp rises in Lleida to the high baseline in Barcelona.
