Lleida, Catalonia – The 37th Fira de Titelles de Lleida, or Puppet Fair, successfully held its busiest day on 2 May, drawing large crowds despite early morning rain threats. Only one performance, 'Històries titellaires' by Proyecto Caravana, needed to be moved from the Institut d’Estudis Ilerdencs courtyard to its Aula Magna, which was then filled to capacity.

Uri Ferre, co-director of the Fair alongside Elisabet Vallvé, told reporters, "We have exceeded our expectations for public attendance. While it is still very early to discuss specific numbers, we are very happy." The event featured over 40 performances and installations across various city stages once the rain subsided.

Large-Scale Performances and Anniversaries

One notable spectacle was 'Cavall' by French company Cie Paris Bénarès, which took over Plaça Sant Joan. The performance featured a large horse reproduction, marking the square's return as a Fair venue after several editions. The ground remained slightly wet from the earlier rain.

The Centre de Titelles also presented 'Bufairons' at CaixaForum. This show revisits the entity's origins to commemorate its 40 years on stage. According to Ferre and Vallvé, the work "maintains the name and universe of the Centre's first piece, when it was located in La Caparrella, while renewing its aesthetics, script, and visuals."

Final Day of Festivities

The festival's programme continues today, 3 May, starting at 10am at various locations across Lleida, including the Morera Museum, the Arxiu Històric, and the Orfeó. The event will conclude tonight with an awards ceremony at the Cafè del Teatre, honouring the best proposals presented during this edition.
