The Palau de Vidre in Lleida has been awarded a Catalonia Construction Award in the energy rehabilitation category, making it the first building in the city to receive this honour. The award recognises the comprehensive renovation carried out between 2024 and 2025.
The Col·legi d’Aparelladors de Barcelona organises the annual awards, now in their 23rd edition. The project team, including Francesc Belart, Josep Maria Mezquida, and Mercè Comas, attended the awards ceremony in Barcelona.
Energy Efficiency Improvements
Francesc Belart, the technical architect for the project, explained that the renovation prevents heat and cold loss. This was achieved by installing different types and thicknesses of glass. Belart told Segre that the north façade is colder, while the south façade receives more sun.
A building management system (BMS) has also been installed. This domotics system automates, monitors, and manages the climate control and lighting. Users can control it from a tablet or phone.
The renovated Palau de Vidre is expected to open in just over a month, once all interior equipment is ready for use.
