Lleida has lost another long-running city-centre business, with La Caputxeta Dolça in Plaça de la Sal now permanently closed after the death of its owner, Marc Sangrà.
The sweet shop was known for sweets, caramels and traditional products, and had become a familiar part of the Eix Comercial shopping area. According to Segre, Sangrà ran the business for many years and was a well-known figure in the local community.
In recent weeks, workers have cleared the premises, removing sweet displays, dismantling exhibition stands and emptying much of the furniture inside the shop.
The closure adds to a growing number of empty units in Lleida's commercial centre. Other recent shutdowns in the area include El Genet Blau bookshop, Calucho Ciclisme and the Trèvol toy shop.
The future of the vacant premises in Plaça de la Sal is not yet known. Local business groups are expected to continue discussing ways to support the Eix Comercial and reduce the number of empty shops in the area.
