A driving school in Lleida has filed a formal complaint after an alumna reportedly suffered a severe anxiety attack during a practical driving test. The complaint was lodged by a teacher from Autoescola San Juan with the Provincial Traffic Headquarters on 11 June 2026.

According to the school, the incident happened at 13:00 during a test supervised by a traffic examiner and involving two students. The instructor says the examiner continued the test even after the student showed clear signs of emotional distress.

The complaint says the route passed through a narrow area with a complex road layout, including an intersection with two consecutive STOP signs. It adds that the student placed the car in a lane the examiner considered incorrect, after which she reacted strongly and began to cry, became blocked, and struggled to continue.

Later, in Vilanova de Segrià, the student had to stop the vehicle and leave it because of her anxiety, with help from others at the scene, according to the written complaint.

The school says the case shows a lack of empathy, sensitivity and proper handling of a situation involving clear emotional vulnerability during an official test. It also says teachers at Autoescola San Juan have previously raised concerns about attitudes they consider distant, authoritarian or disrespectful.

The school is asking for the complaint to be accepted and added to the relevant records, and for the events to be assessed by the authorities. It also wants practical driving tests to be carried out with respect, professionalism, impartiality and sensitivity to candidates' personal circumstances. For more Catalonia news, see our news page.
