Lleida is at the centre of a new football project, as Lleida Calaveres Club de Futbol was announced yesterday in the city. The club says it wants to become the emotional, social and identity heir to UE Lleida, Lleida Esportiu and Lleida CF, while preserving the city’s football legacy.

The name pays tribute to the historic AE Lleida Calaveres, founded in 1924. The promoters say the project comes from supporters’ clubs, season ticket holders and fans, with a model based on popular football.

According to the club’s statement, the plan is built around internal democracy, transparency, member participation and strong local roots. The organisers say the social base should be at the centre of the club’s future structure.

The sporting aim is to compete in the Lliga Elit and to build a stable structure that can support grassroots football, strengthen the club’s identity and help secure the project’s long-term viability.

The club also said its future depends on the outcome of ongoing judicial and federative procedures, as well as the authorisations it still needs from the relevant bodies. It is using the slogan, “The feeling of being from Lleida”.
