A man was arrested in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat early on Sunday morning after a shooting incident that led to a police chase. The events unfolded around 5am on Batllori street in the Sant Josep neighbourhood, where two gunshots were heard, according to ElCaso.com.
A Guàrdia Urbana patrol in the area quickly responded and saw a car fleeing the scene, running a red light. Officers pursued the vehicle through the city streets until it stopped near the Matacavalls bridge, by the train tracks. The two occupants then exited the car and ran. Police managed to apprehend one individual, a Moroccan man aged around 30, and arrested him. The second person escaped and remains at large.
The arrested man was initially taken to a Guàrdia Urbana police station before being transferred to the Mossos d'Esquadra. The Mossos will now lead the investigation to determine the target of the shooting and whether there was an intent to kill. No injuries have been reported, and evidence has been collected from the scene to help clarify the facts.
Recent Shootings in Catalonia
This incident in L'Hospitalet occurred just hours after a separate fatal shooting in Barcelona's Zona Franca. Around 7:30pm on Saturday, a man in his 40s was shot multiple times in the head on Minera street. The assailant opened fire in public before fleeing towards the train station. Emergency services confirmed the death of the victim, a Spanish man with a history of drug-related offences, upon arrival. The Mossos d'Esquadra's Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) is investigating this case to identify the killer.
Sunday's shooting is the latest in a series of similar incidents in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat in recent weeks. In mid-March, several shots were fired in the Florida blocks. Police found shell casings and projectile fragments on the street, but no injuries were reported. Towards the end of March, a more serious incident occurred, resulting in the death of a 27-year-old Dominican man in a shooting at Parc de les Planes, which also left another man seriously injured. No arrests have been made in connection with that crime, and investigators are working on the hypothesis that it may stem from a conflict between Latin gangs.
Just two weeks ago, on 4 May, five shots were fired at the entrance of Bar Josué. The shooters reportedly hid inside after the incident. No one was injured, and no arrests were made, although Dominican individuals were also said to be involved in that event. The Mossos d'Esquadra continue to investigate these interconnected incidents, aiming to bring those responsible to justice and address the underlying causes of the violence.
