L'Hospitalet de Llobregat Council has ratified agreements designed to end a labour dispute with the local Guàrdia Urbana police force. The measures include an internal restructuring and a budget reallocation, according to officials.
The approval marks a significant step towards improving working conditions for local police officers in the Barcelona metropolitan area.
New Chapter for Local Police
While the agreement is seen as positive, officials acknowledge that more work is needed. "There is still a long way to go, and we must improve infrastructure and equipment so that local police can carry out their work in the best conditions," a council spokesperson told reporters.
The spokesperson added that it was impossible to recover a decade of unupdated labour conditions in a single negotiation. However, the council values the agreement positively and trusts it will serve as a turning point for a new stage in relations between the local government and the L'Hospitalet police force.
This resolution follows a period of tension and negotiations aimed at addressing officers' concerns regarding their working environment and resources. The reorganisation and financial adjustments are intended to modernise the force and ensure better operational capabilities for public safety.
