Barcelona’s La Foixarda sports centre is set to get a new artificial turf pitch after a €1 million investment from the Barcelona City Council. The work is intended to improve playing conditions at the Montjuïc facility, which is used by local sports clubs, schools and community groups.

The council said the existing pitch will be replaced with a modern surface designed to improve durability and playability. It said the investment forms part of its support for grassroots sport and for municipal facilities across the city.

La Foixarda is a key amateur sports hub in Barcelona, with football and rugby clubs among the regular users. The council said the new pitch will benefit a range of groups that train and compete there.

The upgrade also sits within a wider programme to modernise sports facilities across Barcelona. That work includes improvements to changing rooms, lighting and other amenities at several municipal sports grounds.

Work on the new pitch is expected to begin shortly and finish later this year. The council has not yet given specific start or end dates, but local clubs will be told about any temporary closures.
