Junts per Catalunya's municipal group president in Barcelona, Jordi Martí Galbis, will advocate for urgent security and anti-social behaviour measures at the May Security Commission meeting. The party's proposition comes after recent violent incidents in the city, which residents, shopkeepers, and local organisations have condemned.

"In recent weeks, we have experienced several serious episodes of violence and insecurity in Barcelona: stabbings, use of firearms, assaults, violent robberies, and urban vandalism that have generated concern and social alarm among citizens," Martí Galbis explained. This includes a recent shooting death in the Zona Franca district.

Calling for an Integrated Security Plan

Martí Galbis stated that "security policies require an integrated strategy that combines prevention, police presence, coordinated action, urban intelligence, and the recovery of public space, including measures such as the expulsion of repeat foreign offenders." The Junts package includes implementing proposals from municipal groups already approved in plenary sessions and commissions.

The party also calls for an increase in Guardia Urbana presence and patrols, deploying specific security and coexistence operations in high-crime areas, and strengthening coordination between Barcelona's police force and the Mossos d'Esquadra. Martí Galbis will also push for a public, periodic system of urban security indicators, better public space safety conditions, and improved police communication with residents, businesses, and organisations.

Junts will demand quarterly meetings with municipal groups to discuss city security matters and to apply the Civility Ordinance with full rigour.
