MotoGP rider Àlex Márquez suffered a serious accident during the Catalan Grand Prix in Montmeló. The incident occurred on lap 12 of the race while the Cervera-born rider was competing for the lead, closely following Pedro Acosta.

Márquez, riding for Gresini, was behind Acosta's KTM on the back straight when Acosta's bike suddenly slowed due to a technical problem. Márquez could not avoid hitting the RC16 and was thrown towards the escape area before turn 10.

Ducati Hits Wall

Upon entering the gravel, the Catalan rider lost control of his Ducati Desmosedici, which then violently hit the wall. Márquez tumbled through the gravel after the impact.

Race Control immediately displayed the red flag due to the severity of the accident and the debris on the track. After hitting the barriers, the blue Ducati bounced back onto the asphalt, completely destroyed, with parts scattering across the track, according to images from the race.

An ambulance quickly entered the circuit to attend to Àlex Márquez, who was fortunately conscious. He was then taken to the Circuit Medical Centre for initial checks before being transferred to the Hospital General de Catalunya in Sant Cugat del Vallès for further tests. The race was restarted but had to be stopped again shortly after due to another multi-rider accident.
