Berga doctor and lecturer Josep Vidal Alaball has been named Catalonia’s second Professor of Family and Community Medicine, and the first at UVIC-UCC, according to Regió 7.

Vidal Alaball said he sees the appointment as an example for other medical professionals. He qualified as a doctor in Devon, England, in 1997, and has worked as a community health specialist since 2002.

He also worked as a clinical researcher and lecturer at Cardiff University in Wales before returning to Catalonia in 2007 to live in Berga and join the Catalan Health Institute, or ICS.

Since then, he has worked as a doctor in several towns across Bages and Berguedà, including Bagà, Vallcebre, Artés, Navarcles, Balsareny and, at present, Navàs.
