Jezabel Curbelo, a scientist and university professor residing in L'Hospitalet, has received the 2025 National Research Award for Young Researchers in Mathematics and ICT. This honour solidifies her standing in the field of applied mathematics.
Curbelo's work involves significant collaboration across scientific disciplines. "Doing research in applied mathematics means collaborating with physicists, engineers, oceanographers, and more," Curbelo explained. "This joint effort allows us to tackle questions that would be very difficult, or impossible, to solve separately."
Recognising Interdisciplinary Research
The award highlights the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in modern scientific enquiry. Curbelo's method of working with diverse experts helps to bridge gaps between theoretical mathematics and practical applications, leading to more comprehensive solutions for complex problems. Her recognition by the National Research Award committee underscores the value placed on such collaborative efforts within the scientific community.
The National Research Awards are organised by the Catalan government's Ministry of Research and Universities and the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI). They aim to promote and recognise the scientific activity of Catalonia's researchers.
