In Salou, Tarragona, an 87-year-old Italian woman died yesterday after drowning at Ponent Beach, according to reports from El Caso and confirmation from ACN.

Emergency services received the alert at 16:51. The first ambulance arrived six minutes later, and two medicalised vehicles were sent to the beach.

A bather found the woman floating in the water and raised the alarm. She was later identified by a local resident who recognised her.

Paramedics carried out resuscitation manoeuvres, but they were unable to save her. The incident happened before the official bathing season, which is due to begin on 1 June.
